Going Back is divided into 16 chapters, wherein each woman relates her personal story of fleeing Nazis and surviving as refugees abroad, then moving back. The book explores German anti-Semitism then and now. It also examines the refugee experience and Jewish identity before and after leaving. Photographs of the women appear throughout the book.
